Victory for members at the MCG
By standing together, MEAA members working at the Melbourne Cricket Ground have won compensation for their time spent in uniform fittings that management initially refused to pay for.
Ground staff had been required to attend the fittings in their own time in preparation for their new uniforms to be worn at the 2015 AFL Grand Final. Staff were told that wearing the new uniforms was mandatory and would not be permitted to work without it.
MEAA delegates then collected 200 staff signatures in one day calling for management to pay staff for their time.
Recognising the overwhelming support amongst staff, management decided to overturn their decision and committed to pay staff for their time.
Approximately 1000 employees will receive two hours’ pay for their time, the overall number totalling about $60,000.
