It includes the musicians of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO), Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO), Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO), Orchestra Victoria (OV), Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO), Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra (AOBO), the Sydney Symphony (SSO) and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO).
Each constituent orchestra elects a representative to the National SOMA Executive to coordinate industrial and professional policies and to make representations to state and commonwealth governments.
We look after the interests of a huge variety of members: screen technicians, venue staff, costume designers, sound engineers, ushers, set builders, racing staff, lighting operators, animators, screen editors – to name just a few.
As the largest and most established union and industry advocate for creative professionals, we successfully campaign on major issues, fight for our members’ rights at work, lobby hard on industry policy, workplace health and safety and protecting employment opportunities.
Musicians Australia is a member-led initiative to build a better, fairer and more sustainable music industry.
As the new union for working musicians, Musicians Australia will define the sensible floor of professional standards and behavior; set a guide to fair, reliable fees; and partner with industry to rebuild confidence in our live music industry.
The Theatre Orchestra Musicians Association is an initiative of MEAA to provide industrial services and advocacy for theatre orchestra musicians.
The association has been established by and for orchestral and commercial musicians employed in commercial theatre to campaign for sustainable and fulfilling careers for freelance orchestral and commercial musicians.
The mission of TOMA is to protect and advance the economic, workplace and professional interests of its members who are self-employed freelance professional orchestral and commercial musicians.
