The union for Australian media workers is concerned at reports of police searches of the home and office of two journalists in Western Australia.
Media companies should not use Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated tools to compromise ethical standards nor reduce employment opportunities for journalists and must be transparent with their audiences about the use of such tools, says the union for Australian media workers.
At its face-to-face meeting in Sydney on Thursday, February 17, 2023, the MEAA National Media Section Committee considered a Draft Position Statement on AI and passed the following resolution:
The NMS notes the risks and opportunities raised in relation to AI. That the NMS form a sub-committee off-line including ethics committee, to provide ongoing consideration of evolving technology including AI.
