The Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance, the union for Australian journalists, is calling on all political parties to commit to better protection of whistleblowers and public interest journalism.

MEAA members and the broader arts community have witnessed damaging cuts to arts funding in the current term of federal government. In particular, the Australia Council’s budget has been cut by over $100 million and Screen Australia has had $50 million cut. Budget forecasts give us no comfort that this regressive situation will be reversed.
MEAA supports the existing copyright law framework. We believe statute and policy shifts should be modest and limited to situations where compelling evidence suggests a misfit between the law and community needs and expectations.
