New funding model needed to revive opera sector
MEAA has lodged submissions to the National Opera Review calling for a new funding model for Opera. The Review paper outlines the impact of declining funds, including reduced artistic opportunities, fewer positions for principals, choristers, musicians and technicians as well as reduced job security. MEAA calls for a funding model actually based on the cost of the art form with annual indexation.
