MEAA urges ACCC to ‘fully examine’ closure of AAP
MEAA has written to the chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Rod Sims, urging the ACCC to ‘fully examine’ the decision by the owners of Australian Associated Press on March 3 to close the AAP Newswire.
“The closure of AAP has dire ramifications for the Australian media industry,” the letter says.
“The impact on the production of local news across the country is profound. We call on the ACCC to consider whether the closure of AAP is likely to significantly lessen competition in the Australian media market.”
