MEAA condemns Israeli Government closure of Al Jazeera

The following resolution was passed by the MEAA National Media Section Committee on Tuesday, May 7:

That MEAA National Media Section condemns Israel’s shuttering of Al Jazeera’s news gathering, broadcasting and publishing activities as an attack on press freedom.

The National Media Section further condemns the recent legislation facilitating this move, allowing Israel to temporarily shut down foreign media outlets.

We also condemn the ongoing deaths of journalists and media workers in this conflict.

We call on the Australian Government to convey our concerns to Israel regarding the Al Jazeera ban and the deaths of more than 100 journalists in this conflict.
