MEAA Submits Proposed Rule Changes to the Fair Work Commission

MEAA has submitted documents to the Fair Work Commission concerning proposed alterations to the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance’s (MEAA) Rules, as approved by MEAA’s Federal Council on 27 February 2016.

The proposed alterations to the Rules concern:

  • Creation of an ‘Associate Member’ category of membership
  • Enabling MEAA’s chief executive to generally, but not entirely, exercise the powers and duties previously performed by the Federal Secretary, principally in Rule 50
  • Transferring several duties and powers from the former Federal Secretary to the Federal President and in some cases, the MEAA Board
  • Permitting the MEAA Board to delegate certain powers to the Chief Executive
  • Enabling Regional Directors to exercise the administrative powers and duties of Branch Secretaries
  • The deletion of references to ‘full-time officers’ wherever occurring in the Rules
  • The creation of definitions for Associate Member, Chief Executive, Regional Director and Senior Employee
  • The reclassification of ‘Four Deputy Federal Presidents’ to ‘Four Section Federal Presidents, in rule 47 (and elsewhere) to reflect the correct title of these positions
